Classic TV interview book: Close-ups: Conversations with Our TV Favorites

I am a baby boomer who fell in love with television during my infancy. My mom would tell of me singing commercial jingles to her friends at the age of three. Lucy was my electronic baby sitter for years, along with Huckleberry Hound, Gilligan's Island, and Leave It to Beaver.

I was elated with the invention of the VCR, and bought my very first one (for $1200... YIKES!!) in 1978. I had been saving up my money in hopes of being able to record the quickly approaching very last episode of The Carol Burnett Show (March '78). Thankfully, I made my deadline, rushed out that afternoon, purchased it, and hooked it up in time to record Carol Burnett's swan song that very evening. I still have the tape. Back then, blank tapes cost $25 a piece! That is unfathomable today, but true!

I also taped for posterity such things as Rescue From Gilligan's Island on NBC. It was shown in two parts, and the ratings went through the roof, because, after all, we had been waiting fifteen years to find out what happened to our favorite castaways! I still have that tape as well. Alot of these little gems I am glad I held onto over the years, and have enjoyed them countless times over.

I absolutely hated it when "Flo" left ALICE for her own show, (it was never quite the same), cringed at Lucille Ball's misguided attempt at a series return with Life With Lucy, cried at the last episode of The Golden Girls, and even held a "Last M*A*S*H Bash" complete with friends, family, and costumes to bid our fond farewells to the final episode of that great series.

My love of classic television finally parlayed my interest into finding out what happened to all my TV favorites. I wanted to know what it was like when they were doing the show, what their favorite episodes were, and who they kept in touch with. So last summer, I attempted to find out... I began writing a book that eventually turned out to be called "Close-ups: Conversations with Our TV Favorites". I am proud to say that it will be released from last part of October from BearManor Media. It was truly a labor of love to request and receive interviews with the stars of Leave it to Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show, Lassie, Father Knows Best, My Three Sons, The Mothers-in-Law, The Big Valley, Hazel, The Waltons, and more...

If you love classic television as much as I do, I KNOW that you will enjoy hearing in their own words, our conversations, chock full of their amusing anecdotes and fond remembrances of their time in some of the most beloved TV shows in the history of television. t's a FUN read, and a must for the casual or die-hard fan.
